What is your dream home or workspace?

Northern New Mexico style. Contemporary Santa Fe style. Spanish Pueblo Revival style. Territorial style. Your custom home or workspace should be reflective of your own personal style. It should also be inviting to others and constructed to accommodate the way you live and work. Our design process begins with a conversation. What does a custom home or workspace mean to you? How will you use and enjoy interior and exterior spaces? As we talk, we’ll invite you to tell us about your hopes and dreams. Then we’ll get to work on making them a reality.

Site Selection and Analysis

The unique nature of local building sites can make designing and building in Northern New Mexico especially challenging. Choosing a site in Santa Fe’s high desert requires a deep contextual understanding of place and possibilities, including configurations of view, drainage issues, water availability, terrain considerations and zoning restrictions. Praxis' expert team can help you find the right site that responds to your needs and suits your budget. If you’ve already chosen a site, we’ll work with you to create a design that makes the most of its assets.

Schematic Design

Perhaps the most exciting and most important — and most overlooked — step in the design process, schematic design is where the relationships among interior spaces and between interior and exterior spaces are established. Because of the uniqueness of each client’s needs and variations from site to site, no two Praxis structures are the same. Solar exposure, view opportunities and privacy are all carefully considered and married to the home’s design, so that every space conveys a grand and intimate connection between interior and exterior. To truly understand how we do this, we invite you to come visit one of our homes.

Schematic Estimate

What will it cost? Seems like a simple question. But ask anyone who has had a custom home designed and they’ll tell you horror stories of bids that come in grossly over budget and architects that refuse to redesign, forcing the client to overspend, scrap the project, or pay for a redesign themselves. At Praxis, not only will we never let this happen, we guarantee it. If our estimate is more than 3 percent off budget, we’ll take on any necessary re-designing to get the project on budget at no additional cost. Think this sounds too good to be true? Ask our clients about the peace of mind they got from knowing with certainty the cost of their project—with no surprises.

Design Development

Once the basic configuration of the spaces and their relationship to the landscape are established, we layer on appropriate passive solar, mechanical, electrical, insulation, structural, cladding and window systems. These systems are carefully considered to enhance the design statement, maximize energy savings, and provide the high-quality, long-lasting details that are Praxis’ signatures. This way we ensure your new home is functioning well and built soundly so that you can enjoy it for years to come.

Construction

We take the mystery out of building. Through our transparent bidding process we show our clients where their money is being spent, down to the last dime. All of our projects are bid on a fixed-cost basis: our bid is our bond. Once the project begins, a detailed construction schedule tells you exactly what will be done and when. Our crews are friendly and courteous, made up of local craftsmen and craftswomen, who we know and trust to create projects on budget and on time, with sensitivity to those living near our jobsites. Consistent with all of our services, our building projects are finished and delivered to you on budget and ahead of schedule, every time.

It’s simple: our success depends on your happiness with the project—today and tomorrow.
